Laura Boone is originally from Abbeville, SC and currently resides in Greenwood, SC with her husband and two children. They are active members of Newspring Church, Greenwood. Laura graduated Piedmont Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Health Science and a Major in Radiologic Technology in 2006. She worked as a registered Radiologic Technologist at Self Regional Healthcare for one year while continuing her education with a Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Greenville Technical College in 2007. In 2017, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Adventist University of Health Sciences. Laura received on the job training in Echocardiography and Vascular Ultrasound at Carolina Vascular Associates and Self Regional Healthcare. She is experienced and registered in Diagnostic Cardiac, Vascular, Abdominal, Obstetrical, Gynecological, and Breast Ultrasound. She has worked at Self Regional Healthcare since 2006 and continues to work there as needed. She is currently employed full-time as the Program Director for the Adult Echocardiography Program at Piedmont Technical College and serves on a number of committees there. She is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS). In 2019 she had the opportunity to contribute to two chapters in Basic to Advanced Clinical Echocardiography: A Self-Assessment Tool for the Cardiac Sonographer that is being published by Wolters Kluwer with 6500 copies being circulated beginning in 2020.
Charlee Porcelli (President-Elect and Board Member)

Charlene (Charlee) Porcelli is from North Augusta, SC and has resided in Charleston for 15 years. She is a busy mom of two boys, two dogs, and husband. She graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Lander University (Greenwood, SC) and in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from The Medical College of Georgia. She was trained in abdominal, OB/GYN, Vascular, and Echo ultrasound but always gravitated towards echo because of her Exercise Science degree. She is registered in Abdominal, OB/GYN, and Echo and is a Fellow of the American Society of Echo (FASE). She has served on the ASE membership Steering Committee and is currently on the ASE Guidelines and Standards committee (5 years). She is currently the Clinical Supervisor and Technical Director of the Adult Echo Lab at the Medical University of SC (MUSC) and the Adult EKG Lab and works PRN at the VA Medical Center. She started at MUSC right after graduating from ultrasound school and has devoted 15 years to MUSC and echo. She has taught numerous students, new echo graduates, and cardiology fellows. She loves to teach, perform presentations, and give back to the echo community. She has been involved with presentations for various schools in GA and SC, has been a contrast speaker in the past few years, and presented at the 9th Annual Team Echocardiography conference in Hilton Head in 2012. She was happy to be a part of the ASE publication “Guidelines for the Cardiac Sonographer in the Performance of Contrast Echocardiography: A Focused Update from the American Society of Echocardiography” in 2014. Her mission is to ensure all sonographers are practicing to the full scope of their profession and she cannot be more excited to be a part of this exciting new chapter for cardiac sonographers in South Carolina.
Tyja Parlier (Treasurer and Board Member)

Tyja has 16 years experience if field of Echocardiography. She graduated in 2001 from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Psychology , and obtained an Associates degree in 2003 in Cardiac Sonography from Caldwell Community College in Lenoir, NC. She currently works at Prisma Health of Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC as a PRN weekend technologist scanning adult and pediatric patients. She lives in Powdersville, SC and is married with two wonderful boys, that she homeschools during the week. Tyja loves all things outdoors, and is committed to advancing the profession of Echocardiography.
Casey Harrelson (Secretary and Board Member)

Casey graduated from Horry-Georgetown Technical College in 2006 with a degree in Radiology Technology - Applied Science and completed her certification in Computed Technology shortly after. She developed an enthusiasm for the cardiovascular field while working in Nuclear Medicine performing cardiac studies. She made the decision to return to school full time and pursue a career in Echocardiography and Vascular Ultrasound, while maintaining a full-time job working nights and weekends. She received her certification from Midlands Technical College in 2016 and is currently the lead Echo and Vascular Technologistat MUSC Health Marion Medical Center.
Outside of work, Casey loves to travel, and she is constantly look for the next adventure. She enjoys spending time with her two daughters, who she calls “the lights of her life”.
Melinda Evans (Board Member)
Supervisor of Cardiac Diagnostics for Prisma Health - Midlands, Baptist and Parkridge Campuses.
Melinda was born and grew up in Pikeville, Kentucky.Melinda is a member of Saint Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church, enjoys working with her church and playing with her 3 Grandsons whenever possible. She has one daughter that resides in Charlotte, North Carolina and one son that resides in Ashville, North Carolina.She is Registered in both Vascular and Echocardiography and has been a Sonographer for almost 30 years. She feels very lucky to have a wonderful job that she loves and enjoys.Melinda has worked as Clinical Instructor in various places she has worked. Watching and helping others grow in the field is very rewarding. Her passion has always been working with patients and their care and recovery.
Carrie Taylor (Board member)

Carrie Taylor is a cardiovascular sonographer at Lexington Cardiology. She was born and raised in Columbia, SC and currently resides in Lexington with her husband and fur children. Carrie earned her BA in Studio Art from Columbia College with an emphasis in photography. The shift from photography to ultrasound turned out to be a natural one because images are the focus of both. Carrie completed the Advanced Diagnostics Inc. sonographer training program in 2006. She is registered in adult echocardiography and vascular ultrasound. Her 13 year career has taken her into a wide variety of clinical settings. She has worked in the cardiovascular labs at ADI, Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, TN, and Lexington Cardiology. Despite their inherent challenges (or maybe because of them) nursing homes and critical care units were some of her favorite areas. Working with the aging population holds a special place in her heart. The opportunity to work with complex pathology while also learning patients' life stories is what keeps her motivated. She has a great interest in education. She is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and the South Carolina Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SCSVU). Carrie was the President of the SCSVU in 2017 and is excited to have the opportunity to once again participate in bringing education opportunities to her home state.
Tammy Churchill (Board Member)

Tammy Lane Churchill, RDCS (PE FE), FASE is a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer. Currently, Tammy is the Supervisor and IAC Technical Director of the Pediatric Echo Lab at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston; SC. Tammy has held positions at two Children’s Heart programs, nationally ranked highly by U.S. News and World Report. Her strengths and passion are in teaching sonographers and fellows in the Pediatric Cardiology program as well as solving complex issues and operational management of the lab. She strives to be an example in her field for sonographers by contributing to research and initiatives that promote the importance of education and training in the field of Pediatric and Fetal Echocardiography as well as the prevention of cardiac disease and importance of improving cardiac health for children.
Tammy’s diverse skillset includes more than 20 years in imaging. Her career includes 15 years in Pediatric and Fetal Echo as well as 17 years in veterinary medicine, cardiology, critical are and hospital management as a veterinary technician. These varied and complementary skills have given her the ability to work in her passions an offer insight in the preventative healthcare fields. Tammy volunteers for the American Society of Echocardiography serving on the Advocacy and Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography Certification and Training committees. She also volunteers for the SafeBeat Initiative as a medical advisor promoting the importance of screening for sudden cardiac death in children and prevention of cardiac disease in the young.
Tammy’s passions are in missions, both in the human and veterinary medical fields and in education and teaching. Tammy wholeheartedly believes that with education and prevention we can save lives and assist our children to grow and build healthy communities of their own through volunteer efforts and careers. Education and training of sonographers is key to the promotion and growth of our changing healthcare field. The amazing connections, collaboration and increased educational opportunities that SCSE will be able to offer are just some of the reasons that Tammy joined the group in the building of this wonderful avenue to share her knowledge and support as well as mentor others in their journey.
Paul Kim, M.D. (Board Member)
Advanced Cardiology Associates and Self Regional Healthcare, Greenwood, SC
Dr. Kim is the son of a cardiologist and soon followed his father’s footsteps. Dr. Kim began his adult education with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1990 where he graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1994, he graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency in 1997 and his Cardiology Fellowship in 2002 where he served as Chief Interventional Fellow. The American Board of Internal Medicine certifies him in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine. The Texas and South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners also certify him as a Medical Examiner. In 2002, he moved to Greenwood, SC and created the first coronary artery stenting program at Self Regional Healthcare. This was a big win for Greenwood and surrounding areas. He has previously served as the Medical Director of the Echocardiography Lab and currently serves as the Medical Director for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Self Regional Healthcare and the Cardiovascular Technology Program at Piedmont Technical College. Dr. Kim had quite a few cardiology publications in multiple peer-reviewed journals over the years. Above all, Dr. Kim is a person who cares deeply for his patients, the team members that assist him in taking care of his patients, cardiac students, and the education of health care professionals. Dr. Kim shows this through his day-to-day practice and his generosity.
Laura Bowen (Board Member)

Laura Bowen is from SC and currently resides in Camden, SC. She served in United States Navy from 1997-2000 and upon returning to SC, enrolled at the University of South Carolina. While in school, she worked in emergency veterinary medicine and she was first introduced to ultrasound. After graduating from USC with a Biology degree in 2005, she enrolled in the Cardiovascular Technology Program at Providence Hospital. She has been working in the profession of sonography for 12 years. Ms. Bowen is credentialed in both Echo and Vascular, is a member of the South Carolina Society of Vascular Ultrasound (SCSVU) and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and is currently employed by the Columbia VA Healthcare System.
Mary Wingold (Vice President-Board Member)

Mary Wingold is originally from Virginia and has lived in South Carolina for 23 years with her husband. They and their two teenage sons are active members of Taylors First Baptist Church and are involved in many community outreach projects.
Mary developed a great respect for sonographers when she worked as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (RTR) in Virginia. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 1994 at the Medical College of Georgia. There she trained in the ultrasound fields of Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular, and Echocardiography. This program allowed her to experience clinical training with excellent sonographers at ten different medical facilities. She is registered in all these fields, but has specialized in cardiovascular sonography in both inpatient and outpatient facilities since 1994.
For the last 5 years, she has served as an educator with the Clemson University Cardiovascular Imaging Leadership program. She receives great delight in sharing her years of experience with the next generation of sonographers. She completed her Master of Science in Education in 2017 with a focused concentration in learning design technology. This degree helped bring modern concepts and innovative educational ideas to the program. She is interested in research and furthering the respect for the profession of sonography. Mary currently is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and the Society for Vascular Ultrasound.
